Intel Core i7 Issues
Hi

Digging deeper into the Intel Core i7 I have found some interesting stuff.

Using the i7 with tri-state DDR3 RAM the leap in memory bandwidth is substantial:

DDR3-1600 in tri = 38.4gb/s
DDR2-1066 in dual = 8.5gb/s
DDR2-800 in dual = 6.4gb/s

So apps programs will be blindingly fast. GOOD.

One problem with the i7 is the L2 cache size, it's much smaller than other processors:

Intel Core i7 L2 Cache = 128KB total
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 L2 Cache = 8,192KB total
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 L2 Cache = 6,144KB total

So for games the i7 will be disappointingly slow. BAD.

Another issue at the moment is if large amounts of DDR3 RAM, say 12GB, is fitted the X58 chipset is not happy, goes into a corner and sulks. Intel are looking into this and changes to the BIOS are likely to fix the problem. I could not find much info on the internet about this.

if you dont wanna spend so much money and get excellent gaming performance,i sugguest you use e8400 or wait for the depreciate of q9550.anyway,if you are rich,just take i7.

i7主要是大部分2级缓存做成了3级缓存，这个对游戏性能影响很大。
