Globalfoundries Chairman Ruiz to Resign After Scandal11.02.09

Globalfoundries chairman Hector Ruiz, who had been linked to one of the largest insider trading scandals in history, will step down in January, the company said Monday. He will begin taking a voluntary leave of absence immediately.
Globalfoundries, which was the foundry operation of AMD before the chip company spun it off in October in an "asset smart" strategy that Ruiz engineered, said that Ruiz had submitted his resignation in September to take effect on Jan. 4.
Ruiz served as the chief executive of AMD during the period in which federal investigators were probing the Galleon Group, a hedge fund which was allegedly linked to tech executives at Intel, IBM, and others. According to reports, AMD's Ruiz revealed key details about the Globalfoundries spinoff to Galleon executives, but did not profit from the leak. Ruiz was also not named as a defendant.
Ruiz will be replaced by Alan E. "Lanny" Ross, who will serve as interim chairman, effective immediately, until a permanent chairman has been appointed by the board. Ross previously served as chief executive of Broadcom.
