Dear AMD Users,

First of all, let me apologise for opening another topic about the well-known "grey screen crash, coloured stripes" issues but I think the time has arrived to clear up this "mystery". All day long I have been reading through forum posts looking for a proper answer or fix but unfortunately I have not found anything satisfactory yet... There is one thing for sure, a whole lot of people have experienced one of the issues mentioned above. There are plenty of fixes floating around which may or may not help. I think the most important question is, and that is what we all would love to know, whether those problems are hardware defects or all we should do is to wait for a better driver... Here is my story:
First my specs.:
AMD PhenomII 965
2x2GB Kingston HyperX @ 1333MHz
msi 790FX-GD70 mobo
Sapphire HD 5870 1GB
Corsair 750HX
WD CB 640GB
NO OC.
The grey screen with stripes appears randomly when playing any game. After having experienced the "grey/brown screen" glitch for the first time I have started to test system stability step by step. First the CPU (prime95 Large FFTs, Small FFTs aka FPU stress, Blend test: 8+ hrs no errors) then the memory (Prime95 Blend test then Memtest 86+: 8+ hrs no errors) then came the VGA: Furmark: after a minute or so the screen started to flicker and a bit later the well-known grey screen with stripes appeared for a sec then disappeared and then appeared again for a little longer and eventually my PC froze. I even got "HT sync flood occurred error" but that only happened two times. Initially I thought this "grey/brown screen" thing was a Furmark glitch or something like that but the last time when I played Dirt2 this bloody screen appeared again. So now I wonder what the problem can be... Let me list what I have tried so far:
-Placing the VGA into another PCIe slot
-Different drivers
-Different mobo BIOSes
-Disabling audio devices which I do not use in Device Manager
No success.

Well, having put it in a nuts** that is my story. I am about to RMA my VGA tomorrow but first I would like to know whether this is really a HW problem.

Anyway, the main aim of this topic is to help all those who have these issues. Sharing ideas can always help, you know.

I would also love to hear a Moderator or anyone official (I know this is a "User to User" forum but still... who knows) what they have to say about these very common issues (grey screen crash, stripy screen etc).

UPDATE: "AMD customer service said it's a problem caused by MS Windows7 update, they're looking at it, and maybe get a fix in next cat." Some even say it's a fan problem and setting the fan to 40% may slove the problem.
Dah as I get on with reading every single post I came across even better explanations.

"My diagnostic is that there is a driver problem (especially on Win 7 64bit) + the 2D clocks set by ati on their 5xxx series to prevent high energy consumption at idle are too low and are a major cause of crashes."

简单翻译：
有不少HD5000系列显卡用户遇到了灰/棕色竖条纹死机的情况。帖子作者对平台进行了稳定性测试、禁用未使用的设备、更换显卡插槽、更新显卡驱动、刷新主板BIOS、更改风扇转速到40%以上，均不见效，确定问题根源在显卡。

AMD客户服务给予的答复是：问题是由Windows7 Update造成的，详细原因还在调查之中，可能会在下一个催化剂驱动对这个问题进行修正。

帖子作者的观点是：驱动问题（特别是Windows7 x64）+2D频率被设置得过低，是导致这个问题的主要原因。

另外，在AMD官网没找到5870的新BIOS。在techpowerup.com上放出来两个版本：
BIOS version 113-C00101-101 - default voltage 1,162V

BIOS version 113-C00101-103 - default voltage 1,174V

（5870默认核心电压1.15）
不过目前还没太多人愿意当小白，到底增加核心电压是不是唯一的解决办法也无从而知。
PS.1：晚上我自己又遇到两次竖条纹屏死机..........

显卡未OC，CPU过OCCT和OR两小时以上没问题

我以前5870也有这个问题，有时候在桌面上上网的时候都会变成竖条条，换过电源，刷个显卡bios 103，都搞过没有用，有时候几分钟可以出现一次，后来把驱动反安装，然后用driver sweeper扫了一通，重启后安装了老的9.11驱动就没有事情了，貌似从9.12起我就有这个问题了。现在机子一直开用了大概两天还没有出现过一次竖条条，现在又把原来101 bios刷了回去，看看会不会有问题。如果没有问题应该是驱动引起的。
还有啊10.1这个鸟驱动，显示器不能自动关闭啊，日。

想当初遇到竖条纹的时候，我以为是个案，RPWT，有点小郁闷。现在至少在这个问题上很释然。

许久没来...没想到有人会这样？..

我的5870是只出现过一次..不过偶尔..MS出现过5到6次...2D会突然跳到好像没有安装驱动那样...就桌面上..当时什么软件都没开...不过停个5-6秒吧...又会恢复....

我还以为是OS的问题...原来阿....

10.1没用过，所以不知道还不会..不过之前的驱动会..

。。。我只有自动超频的时候才出现。按ESC 中断自动超频立刻就好了平时应用没遇到一次。。。。
用其他工具超频也没问题。。。驱动9.12

昨日遇到好几次，asus5870未超频未加压，玩mw2 对战时出现竖条纹，当时显卡温度50多点，满载也不过68，加压后花屏确实有所减少，但是有时候上网看电影居然会出现驱动停止响应，风扇20 温度36.

显卡bios刷回到原来出厂的之后，应该是101.从昨天晚上到现在还没有出现一次问题，看来还是驱动问题啊。

我感觉是40nm工艺的问题，芯片有某种瑕疵，而AMD用55nm工艺以前的检测方法是检测不出来的

情况绝对属实~! 就前几日购入XFX 5770公板一块.Win7 X64,9.12.插上频繁出现驱动程序停止响应.或者灰白竖条.显示器黑屏.重装系统,上10.1,问题照旧,换主板电源.问题依然.朋友有一块蓝宝石5770.换上问题没有出现.把我的显卡换到朋友的机子上.问题依然.联系XFX客服,说是我自己的问题,但承认有相关想象的反馈.本来想等一等看看新驱动.怕了.退货.现在不知道选什么显卡好了

确实是100%跟驱动“冲突”无关，因为A卡驱动这点破事，我重装N次系统了，请问重装系统之后用不用DriverSweeper？

我不知道瑕疵门什么的，但是我的asus5870确实有这个问题，和amd官网上的图片一样，有时候2d画面先也会停止响应，我前几天联系华硕客服，准备修换。 mw2 网战的时候突然卡住确实很不爽。句句实话，不予争辩。

不是9.11都没事的吗？AMD官方也太懒散了，应该出个应急驱动，或者发表下声明不要使用新驱动。

根据我的观察花屏的前兆是 2d模式下核心电流突然增大如果这个时候快速拉动网页什么的基本上都会花
如果停下一切操作一般过一会电流掉下来就好了
还有花屏的时候核心温度都很低小于35度
还有有次装了itudou过后开机必然会花屏

这个问题到底解决了没有？
我刷了蓝宝的加电压的BISO似乎稳定了，至少昨晚一晚没出现灰条死机现象。

没有解决，大家都凑活着过，不过我倒是觉得在WIN7下面灰条比XP少多了

当初遇到过，早期测试版驱动造成的。5系列的灰条死机其实就和蓝屏是一样的死机而已。

刚买5870公版那会，还没出9.10版本驱动，当时的9.9是不支持5870的。
我当时是4850卸载驱动，换卡，装CD自带的5870测试版驱动，装好怎么重启使用都没事，
但只要是关机了再开，到桌面就花屏（闪小碎颜色块），之后没几秒就灰条死机了。（找JS换了一块，也还是这样）
其实就是9.9无法卸载干净造成的。后来重装系统（当时还是VISTA64，不是Win7-64），直接装5870的驱动就没事了。

1年多前时，我的佳的美电视棒驱动和光影魔术手的大头贴功能有冲突。
只要点了大头贴，就死机。
5870公版这台是灰条死机，285公版那台是蓝屏死机。

再后来，再没遇到过灰条了，非常稳定。

手头5850 6870 5770两块,都公版,还没遇到过这个竖条纹,rp还算可以..看隔壁假如遇到了,微调下bios里面
低频率的电压即可
