Griffin developer AMD has announced that it intends to offer up to $1.7 billion in convertible senior notes in order to pay off the loan it received last year from Morgan Stanley Senior Funding.
AMD's desire is to give Morgan Stanley Senior Funding $1.5 billion in notes with the possibility of adding $225 million in order to have a big portion of the $2.5 billion loan received on October 24 paid off. The sum, used in the acquisition of ATI, has begun to feel a lot heavier after a few quarters of losses and the lack of cash that is putting a big squeeze on AMD.
This would be the second time AMD offers convertible senior notes as earlier this year it gave out $2 billion worth to pay off other bills.
