HENRI RICHARD HAS SAID that leaving AMD any later than he did "would have looked worse".

In an interview with Eweek, Richard says that he chose to leave just before Barcelona launched because the company looked strong going into Christmas and 2008, and his departure would thus avoid negative press connotations.

Uh, right.

"If I was going to go, the time was right... The company was looking at a string of good news and products," Richard told reporters.

Really? Because from where we're standing, AMD is looking at a world of pain for the next six months as it attempts to compete with Intel's new 45nm parts, while the story out of Sunnyvale is delays, more delays, and low clock speeds.

Despite being out of the game, Richard doesn't miss an opportunity to stick to his old party line, saying that Freescale, his new gig, is a different business problem - "This market is very different from the one I come from, in that you don't have such a monopoly", he scurrilously suggested.
