Nvidia starts pushing 'XHD2'

Stupendous display resolutions all round

THE GREEN TEAM has previously come under fire for the slightly ludicrous naming of its 30" widescreen gaming 'platform', XHD (otherwise known a 'Xtreme' High Definition).
This basically means a combo of an 8800, or higher, along with a 30" panel displaying 2560x1600 in widescreen, which does, we'll admit, make for a pretty nice gaming experience.

Now the firm is on about XHD rev 2, the next supposed standard for high-end PC gamers to move to.

Speaking to Thomas' Hard Wares, our favourite Nvidia ex-blogger, Roy Taylor, says that 3800x2400 monitors will soon kick off the saliva glands of fanboys everywhere.

The monitors, which Taylor says will be "30-inches wide with a finer dot pitch", will have decidedly average specs in other ways - like the refresh rate, and the value for money index - but will have the advantage of being super razor sharp and spectacular.

Taylor also suggested he wants games developers to put out 'Director's Cut' editions of their games that whack up the eye candy, creating a field day for hardcore gamers and graphics buyers.

We'd suggest that Nvidia might have an easier time getting developers to bend to its will if it re-instated its Developer Blog, which provided a rather nifty way of communicating with the developer community. Come on Jen-Hsun, are you so far behind Dell on this one?
