Next-Gen Tile-Based GPUs
Speaker: Maurice Ribble (Software Engineer, AMD)
Date/Time: TBD
Track: Mobile: Programming
Experience Level: Intermediate
Session Description
Tile-based GPUs have never been popular on desktop PCs. However, multiple hardware vendors have embraced tiling in the mobile space because of improved power efficiency and performance characteristics. The next generation of OpenGL ES 2.0 enabled mobile phones are likely to cause an explosion in the number of these tile-based GPUs. This presentation explains where tiling architectures diverge from classical GPUs and the benefits that tile-based GPUs offer in the mobile market. Practical examples and live demos of some performance tools transform the theory of tile-based rendering into a practical understanding of how to write efficient graphics code for mobile GPUs.
Idea Takeaway
Attendees will gain greater insight into how tile-based rendering works, and how to develop efficient graphics code for these mobile GPUs.
Intended Audience
This lecture is targeted at engine and graphics programmers who are looking to understand how mobile tile-based GPUs work and how best to take advantage of this platform.
