Vertex Firmware Flashing guides

There are 2 recommended methods now, 1st you power off the board to connect the jumper and flash the drive in Native IDE mode (some boards word native IDE differently...its the mode that ONLY supports the first 3 sata ports..so ports 0 1 and 2) and the other is hot plugging the drive under AHCI mode.

The first part of the guide covers IDE mode.

When flashing .. connect the drive to a SATA channel from either port 0 1 or 2, one that is on the motherboard, not on a RAID card. Set the SATA mode in BIOS to IDE (Native) not RAID. Flash the drives 1 at a time.

Make sure the system is stable! Just like flashing a bios, best to do it at stock CPU/Ram/everything speeds.

Flashing is supported under XP and Vista32/64, make sure to set compatible mode under Vista to XP32 sp2 and run as administrator...No special settings are needed under XP32.

ONLY put the jumper on the drive with no power connected.
It will be recognized an an Yatapdong rom...and will install as a new device in the OS. Once this has finished if prompted to reboot...DO SO...DO NOT flash yet.

Once you boot in and the OS is fine with the new device you can then flash.

I have dropped pics in the file folder and renamed the folders with drive sizes...if you pick the wrong file and try to flash it will error...and will not flash. You have to have the right file for your drive.

I will post the pics here on the forum as a mini guide...its easy to flash...you just have to follow the guide to the letter.

I flashed the 120GB drive here...its the same for all drives.

Some points to remember.

1 Flashing the drive destroys all data on the drive.

2 this means the Vertex has to be connected as a spare.

3 to flash the drive you have to put the jumper on the jumper legs on the back of the drive...do this before you boot up with no power on the drive.Once the jumper is ON the drive, reconnect power and reboot the PC.



4 After flashing it will then prompt you to remove the JUMPER...DO NOT REMOVE IT...HIT OK then hit Cancel on the next option or it will flash again....power down the system and remove power to the drive...then remove the jumper. Now clear the CMOS on your motherboard...and power on. Enter bios and make sure the drive is recognized at vertex XXXX (Fw rev), now reset all your bios settings and boot back to windows...again make sure the OS recognizes the drive..partition it and format it.

You can now power off and proceed to load the OS etc as normal.


First pic shows me setting compatible mode in vista32...to do this right click on Indilinx_start.exe and go to properties..then compatibility.



Now right click (if in Vista) and run as administrator



Next pic is me hitting the Indilinx_start.exe and a box pops up...you already have the drive connected so hit OK



A dos box pops up...and then another will pop up testing the drive...this is where the app is now flashing so DO NOT power down the system.. or you have a dead drive.

Once the flasher does its thing...you will see a box to remove the jumper...DO NOT remove it yet. Hit OK and then CANCEL the next box that pops up..if you hit OK it will flash again...beware



So now the drive is flashed...you have closed the flasher down...power off, remove the jumper etc.

Alternative method under AHCI mode

No pics for this one...so concentrate.

1 The boot drive (non Vertex) has to be in AHCI mode and fully stable within the OS.

2 With the power off to the PC connect a SATA lead to a spare SATA port on the motherboard.

3 boot to OS

4 Open the FW flashing tool, hit start.exe it will prompt you to connect the drive.

5 Making sure the Vertex already has the jumper attached continue to attach the power lead and then the SATA lead that's already connected to a spare port on the motherboard.

6 now hit OK on the flashing tool...it will look for the drive and once found it will flash it.

7 Once flashed the flashing tool will say its been successful and prompt you to remove the jumper, say OK and remove the jumper from the drive. Then hit Cancel on the next box...if you hit OK again it try to reflash the drive all over again and fail as you removed the jumper.

8 You can now power down the system reboot and check the drive is recognized correctly...partition it and format it.
