A few months ago I bought a new system and, knowing that crysis was on the way, I treated myself to an 8800GTX
Tonight, after feverishly installing the Crysys SP demo and the new vNidia version 169.01 drivers I was very dissapointed (annoyed actually) to find that the game was pretty much unplayable at Very High settings.
So I turned the resolution down and turned AA off and I made do with a very difficult to control game. It was very low FPS and not only that there was a very distinct delay between when I moved the mouse and when the screen updated. The delay was such that I found myself constantly shooting where the enemy was and not where the enemy currently is.
If anyone else has had this same experience then you might be relieved to hear that I seem to have found the reason why. Its those damn 169.01 drivers. I uninstalled them and went back to version 163.71 and now the game is nice and smooth at Very High settings.
But before you roll back your drivers, its not all good news. So far my PC has crashed twice. Not just the game; my whole pc. The screen suddenly locks up and then a few seconds later the sound stops and there is a *click* as the monitor goes in to standby mode and I get nothing but a black screen so be warned.
But the way I see it, if the performance is good in version 163.71 then I dont see any reason why the performance cant be good AND the crashes be fixed in some future driver version. So who knows.
I would also like to hear if anyone else sees a serious performance increase by rolling back their drivers. I am going to go now and take some benchmarks using both driver versions and post the results |
