"Not so long ago, Sharp LCDs were the golden jewels of home electronics. Their quality was simply unbeatable and oozed opulence from every angle. Simply put, they were the Kuro of their days. But that all changed in 2007 when Sharp adopted a newer-simpler design (for the Western market). In truth, Sharp no longer invest heavily in the European and the U.S market due to the heavy competition from budget and Korean brands such as Samsung, L.G and Vizo. So if you’re after a high-quality Sharp model, you’ll have to import one directly from Japan."
That's my (prologue) quote from the review of LC-42DH77E. It's not up on the HDTVtest yet, but it'll be there sometime next week or the week after.
IMO, it's one of the worst LCDs out there. For the price, there's far better alternatives.
Sharp's implementation of MCFI is poor to average. Although it didn't produce any noticeable artefacts, the improvement was minimal.
Color accuracy was just down-right poor and there's no way of rectifying it. It also suffered from low-tone smearing. To finish it off, the speakers are just rubbish. They sounded very low and lacked definition.
If I were you, I would stay well away from Sharp (unless you wish to import one from Japan). |
