Windows Vista features a completely new audio architecture. This new architecture affects any 8 ~3 R; z0 H3 O
application that uses DirectSound, wave/MME, or the new Vista audio interfaces. Applications

Please remember the following when using Windows Vista with your Echo hardware:

- Using the sample rate lock in the console may result in applications playing or recording at

DirectMonitoring for Mia is a little tricky. Cubase (or any other ASIO program) doesn’t know : y; x3 s, Y/ V& P
about Mia’s virtual outputs; it just sees Mia as four inputs and eight outputs. Unfortunately, Mia’s $ X, `: h+ k6 i3 q3 }1 a
monitor mixer can only route real inputs to real outputs, and there is no obvious way to convert
5 `+ V, G; r% Efrom the virtual outputs to the real outputs. & q( h) J( |. `2 I6 t2 o
H& U+ n8 t9 N8 BTherefore, if you are doing DirectMonitoring with Mia, the input will be simultaneously sent out
/ `% J( B* A. x9 K3 c$ Aboth the analog and digital outputs. It’s a compromise, but should be more useful than not , n# C) Z( R/ T4 R8 b
having any DirectMonitoring support. + R1 I- @/ z! ?2 L. C

5 g' r+ a1 P0 D9 F6 JWhen you run Cubase, you may not see some of your outputs. This is probably due to the fact 8 N! `2 {2 J% F3 v7 l
that another program is using them. The most likely culprit is the Microsoft wavetable
! }& l* r. ~& J" c' E" Rsynthesizer, which is being opened by Cubase as a MIDI output device. Exit Cubase and run the
5 ?% B1 y5 f7 M W! a“Setup MME” program. Select “Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth” and click the “Set Inactive” + ~. ~! _( f4 k' O9 R+ J; {! F' p8 X
button. Run Cubase again. , {( `; Y9 R+ n8 q

3 F( H; x5 N6 C+ g8 I0 u$ MIf your outputs still don’t show up, you may have some other software that’s doing the same thing.
* D! h# o4 e9 ]5 tLook in the “Setup MME” program for other programs that may be grabbing audio outputs or
: P3 `2 P! r: T3 k) ]9 Binputs. In addition, see what other audio software you have running. 4 ~" [3 W8 l* Y, L. W

Why is my first input monitor always muted when I run Cubase? , f( S; M, [. S9 V

This is because we support ASIO 2.0 Direct Monitoring. Direct Monitoring gives Cubase control
- {" s3 ^% b: Q2 hover the hardware monitors. When Cubase starts up, it uses DirectMonitoring to mute that

We realize that this is annoying. As far as we can tell the concept behind Cubase is that you & d; q3 X" `" s9 H& I. R9 h
should have all your monitors muted at first and then enable them within Cubase in the Channel
( N" u% I1 B* i% D6 qMixer window as you prepare to record tracks, etc. 5 W1 n8 U3 S7 q3 _2 o* T+ N0 W

“ASIO Control Panel” and uncheck the box labeled “Enable ASIO 2.0 Direct Monitoring”. This will
: R0 s3 J8 h0 X$ @- Qcause our ASIO driver to reject any Direct Monitoring commands and prevent the mute on
9 V- p5 V' H; w) ^! |startup. Of course, it also means that you can’t use Direct Monitoring. ; J0 K% n: l4 j; v/ h& ]

3 @3 g3 |7 z( E2 B2 O! hSONAR supports ASIO and WDM/KS for low-latency access to audio hardware. The ASIO mode 8 k" v( Q2 u; K$ J. H, \- ]
performs well and is straightforward to set up, requiring no special configuration. + G/ D) N: ], Z8 ]/ X$ J8 u* Y% B# w

once SONAR starts successfully without the “not compatible” message, be sure to run the Wave

Note: When installing a new hardware device, you may need to delete the aud.ini file in your
0 g. Z4 e1 O' PSonar install folder. This resets the settings back to their defaults and facilitates installing new or

Windows volume controls

slider marked “Line volume”. This is the same as the “Virtual Out” slider in the console.
