Windows Vista features a completely new audio architecture. This new architecture affects any ; T4 h; ~# }7 G' c( ?* Z
application that uses DirectSound, wave/MME, or the new Vista audio interfaces. Applications

monitor mixer can only route real inputs to real outputs, and there is no obvious way to convert . q8 u4 X7 H4 z. V6 b- z! K. |$ F
from the virtual outputs to the real outputs.

2 X8 e8 p* n/ oTherefore, if you are doing DirectMonitoring with Mia, the input will be simultaneously sent out 7 X4 X+ M; J; k+ i* R' ~0 q6 \
both the analog and digital outputs. It’s a compromise, but should be more useful than not - O" d& [8 g0 P7 \$ Q7 Y- t
having any DirectMonitoring support.

When you run Cubase, you may not see some of your outputs. This is probably due to the fact
1 p4 C" B0 z2 X4 gthat another program is using them. The most likely culprit is the Microsoft wavetable
6 g" `! w% }) v) ^synthesizer, which is being opened by Cubase as a MIDI output device. Exit Cubase and run the
: T9 u0 { S# _“Setup MME” program. Select “Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth” and click the “Set Inactive” 5 ^2 {' p" R3 M3 F" J) i* E- D
button. Run Cubase again.

If your outputs still don’t show up, you may have some other software that’s doing the same thing.

over the hardware monitors. When Cubase starts up, it uses DirectMonitoring to mute that / G, U" N" |- \; ^; o" k
monitor.

We realize that this is annoying. As far as we can tell the concept behind Cubase is that you

If you don’t like this behavior, you can always go to Options/Audio Setup/System…., click on

4 }$ I7 z7 p, d- Ccause our ASIO driver to reject any Direct Monitoring commands and prevent the mute on
- I/ p L/ k$ I# n* Kstartup. Of course, it also means that you can’t use Direct Monitoring. 6 `! y. L" i" j, l2 y) {

Using SONAR

8 C0 p2 `' D' L4 f. y7 VSONAR supports ASIO and WDM/KS for low-latency access to audio hardware. The ASIO mode
1 D& P- S9 \% m3 Q$ }performs well and is straightforward to set up, requiring no special configuration.

You may get a message that your audio devices are not compatible with the specified format; you

Adjusting the “Wave” and “Synth” sliders will set the volume levels for the Windows kernel mixer,
