Windows Vista features a completely new audio architecture. This new architecture affects any
' e- g6 J+ I6 C9 Rapplication that uses DirectSound, wave/MME, or the new Vista audio interfaces. Applications

) `3 {) _+ d, ^( U8 w5 {about Mia’s virtual outputs; it just sees Mia as four inputs and eight outputs. Unfortunately, Mia’s
9 _2 r4 N0 l* H6 B% g! Omonitor mixer can only route real inputs to real outputs, and there is no obvious way to convert
1 S4 ^ R8 {9 y4 Rfrom the virtual outputs to the real outputs. ( W8 O$ K2 ~ I' _
) F3 m# [) G. H& r6 H! Z9 Z
Therefore, if you are doing DirectMonitoring with Mia, the input will be simultaneously sent out ; G1 k7 \1 O0 e3 @
both the analog and digital outputs. It’s a compromise, but should be more useful than not
& H- A, w7 \( Lhaving any DirectMonitoring support.

Help! I don’t see all of my inputs and outputs.

: \( w8 @, c) n, g. w, `: jWhen you run Cubase, you may not see some of your outputs. This is probably due to the fact
; b0 p1 ~0 `2 W* h, ?7 Wthat another program is using them. The most likely culprit is the Microsoft wavetable
9 ~2 d9 e. I2 N( Y" a- T- nsynthesizer, which is being opened by Cubase as a MIDI output device. Exit Cubase and run the
6 [" n! a; l' M“Setup MME” program. Select “Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth” and click the “Set Inactive”
; R* s/ ?# C ]# \! M) G6 Mbutton. Run Cubase again.
; d9 [" e0 q# U6 c3 ^' ^9 @' e1 }6 P/ x+ K; _; H* [) m

If your outputs still don’t show up, you may have some other software that’s doing the same thing. % h& Q* b: F; |$ [9 E5 D& N
Look in the “Setup MME” program for other programs that may be grabbing audio outputs or * @4 P l8 j7 E% t0 P9 e6 r
inputs. In addition, see what other audio software you have running. ; N6 T. t4 O$ n/ N% Z, y

Why is my first input monitor always muted when I run Cubase?

This is because we support ASIO 2.0 Direct Monitoring. Direct Monitoring gives Cubase control
. V; e! w# g; ?/ |. g* }over the hardware monitors. When Cubase starts up, it uses DirectMonitoring to mute that

$ G0 P6 B+ ^0 `( c2 p) CWe realize that this is annoying. As far as we can tell the concept behind Cubase is that you
) ^# E Q' E3 W+ F: l- R qshould have all your monitors muted at first and then enable them within Cubase in the Channel
! z7 K% r6 L4 @% E% O" P/ WMixer window as you prepare to record tracks, etc. 4 |4 `# E' X8 G r$ c

“ASIO Control Panel” and uncheck the box labeled “Enable ASIO 2.0 Direct Monitoring”. This will # |) b% E0 c0 s- A1 a/ A
cause our ASIO driver to reject any Direct Monitoring commands and prevent the mute on
; {) N* V# d' s8 L7 D' z3 l7 Vstartup. Of course, it also means that you can’t use Direct Monitoring.

Using SONAR 4 ~% P$ o- H3 U [

SONAR supports ASIO and WDM/KS for low-latency access to audio hardware. The ASIO mode 7 C" J3 A0 ^% m; U' t
performs well and is straightforward to set up, requiring no special configuration.

may need to restart SONAR several times. Make sure each time that the settings are correct;

Note: When installing a new hardware device, you may need to delete the aud.ini file in your h; I' F, H2 I7 c
Sonar install folder. This resets the settings back to their defaults and facilitates installing new or

not the hardware. These settings are not the same as the volume sliders in the console. The
) Q, \/ P) i9 lconsole sliders adjust the levels in the hardware; the Windows volume controls are for adjusting
