Problem: A7N8X-VM/400 w/ AGP-NV-DVI & TV-out feature( v/ d( k2 k1 @/ ?7 y

This is a request to the rest of the Asus A7N8X-VM owners that have
2 S0 S0 e4 F) |) q' Y! Obought the companion AGP-NV-DVI card. I'm not able to get TV out0 J# t/ L) x9 r8 G+ A- Y+ g: d* o
working, either through Composite or S-Video, in Windows 2000 or" r" p2 ~) O# L; {8 E& Q
Linux, and I was curious if anyone else has or is having the same$ u% T% e% U2 z. A
problem.

Daugther Card's S-Video and Composite out Feature. This is the main

combined, and unplugging the TV Tuner Card. The setting under the bios
9 `8 E0 G: n( b9 j+ X* H/ d6 wspecify NTSC for the TV out format Nothing has had an effect on the
" O9 N: }" Z. ]" |! q3 T# Z8 {video output of the AGP-NV-DVI card.1 Z% G! w; V$ Y0 `7 y: V/ g* n0 C

All I receive from the Television for a fraction of second is a

Customer using agp-nv-dvi agp card, that is supposed to work with this' U8 ?- @! N2 l, i$ e- t
motherboard. Whenever selecting to output to the tv, he gets a quick. w% f- h9 ~$ ~9 W% [
flicker and then the video goes out again. He has attempted to connect

bad card. Suggested trying a different power supply, run the

the card; smell seems to be coming from around the AGP slot

Okay, got the system board (A7N8X-VM/400) and daughter card
8 h1 M" A8 F- U: j: Q(AGP-NV-DVI) back from the RMA department. I hook up all the parts and( c! w2 Z2 z f1 d4 P. B b6 l
pieces to the power supply and the SAME PROBLEM. Exactly the same as |0 B5 [' l# U
the last time. I did notice one new thing. When I went to check the3 }6 T) H7 m; k
connection of the Composite Video Cable a small spark jumped from the) K M1 C4 } t8 G0 P" c
AGP Cards resistor, Marked R20??, to the AGP Connector on the system7 A+ h/ M+ `) D; G7 H% d& G
board, causing the system to reset and including the CMOS. That% q* {2 l5 W. Q5 j, y7 T
doesn't look good at all. Funny thing is that was happening before I4 v) D" u* x! ]- a) p7 c
just didn't notice it, and I think thats what caused the last failure.
/ n: Q3 U, d. t3 E7 a2 p8 n; H7 O- l0 bBottom line the Card and System still don't do what I need them to do.( j$ d3 h" N- ]! `/ \2 D- g
Help with this feature would be greatly appreciated since it is why I/ J9 k: f3 V4 v* n% x" z1 F
purchased this system and daughter card.

The sparks probably indicate a static electricity problem--not really( ]8 @# }; E/ k# \* m' ]6 g
a good thing. This is two power-type issues you have had since6 T8 R* @8 r( x: ?% \; E
changing the power supply--perhaps there is something wrong with the0 S& ~3 M/ p H8 J& n
Antec you picked up? The parts you received from RMA either a) worked
0 d% w( S: L" _2 u5 M" }properly in their lab after repair, or b) were sent as working6 ?4 a6 V x: L: X) S/ _
replacements for the parts you sent to them. Either way, they should
; c% w; S8 h, g3 I* xfunction correctly. Since you had a problem initially when using the" w5 }& q+ Y9 R |
Antec, and now are having what looks like static problems, perhaps7 ~4 u$ [8 \$ l# a- a. p) |
that particular power supply has issues of its own.

" q' b* K3 A) w: @* B2 HRegarding the TV out problem: Make sure the television is turned on
^6 h- b3 M0 K9 j7 e3 [and connected to the card before turning on the computer. You may also
4 q B: ]& R# ]! M3 Lwant to try a different video cable to see if that helps.3 ]; D, A# p8 x, H0 N% D

If a different power supply doesn't help the condition of the boards,% W' I. Y6 X+ D O4 J
unfortunately the only option left is to contact RMA once again.1 r1 J/ ~6 ~& g. z7 _; e
