Problem: A7N8X-VM/400 w/ AGP-NV-DVI & TV-out feature

This is a request to the rest of the Asus A7N8X-VM owners that have& [; G4 q- L- H% e" [8 D
bought the companion AGP-NV-DVI card. I'm not able to get TV out) l- [2 `+ c7 o
working, either through Composite or S-Video, in Windows 2000 or
3 x: _6 b+ ~, ~7 M( gLinux, and I was curious if anyone else has or is having the same5 S, p9 k ?/ g! r+ t

BTW: Asus customer service has to be the worst I've ever delt with.

I've been dealing with this problem since Mar 17, 2004 and no one has

Daugther Card's S-Video and Composite out Feature. This is the main

/ V p. [" R: [- r" N4 ]* HI have tried downloading and reinstalling the drivers for the systems
5 ?# f, O$ R& _% N2 u. m4 ecomponents, running the system with each monitor indivually and( i k( Q3 [+ r2 n1 |. r
combined, and unplugging the TV Tuner Card. The setting under the bios
* h8 e% D6 u* p$ Cspecify NTSC for the TV out format Nothing has had an effect on the, v( t& o. z K( N& K
video output of the AGP-NV-DVI card.( X) ~4 F/ {& n1 b
; q" Q0 N* `+ E3 M; k5 G0 d
All I receive from the Television for a fraction of second is a/ P; C5 v3 W( u8 m! W7 _
flicker of the computer screen in B&W when I select the Television
5 H8 v4 I% U2 T1 S" }output from the nVidia GeForece4 MX Intergrated GPU Properties Tab

via my VCR.

Customer using agp-nv-dvi agp card, that is supposed to work with this$ L a3 e. ^7 I0 G5 m' n3 v }' M
motherboard. Whenever selecting to output to the tv, he gets a quick% K Q; J! s% _8 @
flicker and then the video goes out again. He has attempted to connect( b' g; d9 P9 p& I; @# ?) U1 T
to another tv. Same problems. Also tried loading linux, to see if$ s* v: J2 Z0 {7 M6 K7 O# w6 F- x
still had problems. No difference. Beginning to sound like a possible! P+ g8 F- ~% g8 w& Q
bad card. Suggested trying a different power supply, run the5 s0 b* t( B% o

the card; smell seems to be coming from around the AGP slot

9 G3 m! U2 ^: Q2 n& \: i(AGP-NV-DVI) back from the RMA department. I hook up all the parts and
' m( I. r: t2 J! y8 P6 l3 Kpieces to the power supply and the SAME PROBLEM. Exactly the same as
1 s9 \8 ^0 a: z" s( o1 n' ~8 C& Mthe last time. I did notice one new thing. When I went to check the1 E8 Y! |8 J# z+ ?% v. y
connection of the Composite Video Cable a small spark jumped from the* J6 y6 O2 i1 S7 N$ P/ d5 S
AGP Cards resistor, Marked R20??, to the AGP Connector on the system! g8 _1 u1 X, u. b: n# ]6 r1 l7 }
board, causing the system to reset and including the CMOS. That$ j) x1 x' b) n4 T; _: S
doesn't look good at all. Funny thing is that was happening before I
( r( O e: }3 r$ A/ g9 | t$ Qjust didn't notice it, and I think thats what caused the last failure.2 }7 h; Q& e7 I* n% l( J
Bottom line the Card and System still don't do what I need them to do.6 J# h5 L* ~) z
Help with this feature would be greatly appreciated since it is why I
! z! ~" R# O1 W# z6 {purchased this system and daughter card.

The sparks probably indicate a static electricity problem--not really
O) t! _( Q3 i$ V, z# Va good thing. This is two power-type issues you have had since) ~* ~: t- V* W% N
changing the power supply--perhaps there is something wrong with the
1 b! V- P9 }# a4 C# [% ^- y a/ j. {Antec you picked up? The parts you received from RMA either a) worked
. l* |3 `9 C" A- |5 H/ {1 a; G9 Y" Kproperly in their lab after repair, or b) were sent as working6 \ B4 g$ W, P/ E+ ]
replacements for the parts you sent to them. Either way, they should
2 t' t4 v8 Z* ufunction correctly. Since you had a problem initially when using the- M* g5 S" q/ V2 n- F2 V/ a
Antec, and now are having what looks like static problems, perhaps3 M% W! c0 O! M9 {" J) B/ {. [$ f% B, ?, `
that particular power supply has issues of its own.* j. U- ~, r) ]# M; J
3 r' V$ U" w/ {0 _$ xRegarding the TV out problem: Make sure the television is turned on
) h3 P: L- b6 l& d" zand connected to the card before turning on the computer. You may also) M& x% R0 W( \9 } |2 r" @, b
want to try a different video cable to see if that helps.

unfortunately the only option left is to contact RMA once again.

Next, I called Tech support and left a message with Less who informed

Monday 12PM. Which means if I do not hear back from tech support
