Problem: A7N8X-VM/400 w/ AGP-NV-DVI & TV-out feature9 K$ w6 J0 K. N' d' ]

This is a request to the rest of the Asus A7N8X-VM owners that have' g# d3 f! q/ \! ]# _. U: s
bought the companion AGP-NV-DVI card. I'm not able to get TV out1 |& Q4 B( L9 ~4 P2 g; w/ l
working, either through Composite or S-Video, in Windows 2000 or, A7 P# q0 w$ z2 D" v# L& D
Linux, and I was curious if anyone else has or is having the same

They are always "Busy Helping other customers" which is usually

I have tried downloading and reinstalling the drivers for the systems
$ `1 T- x6 E! i9 ^5 g1 {$ [# X0 `components, running the system with each monitor indivually and
9 v( L% X' U7 G0 L5 B$ f) g/ u1 xcombined, and unplugging the TV Tuner Card. The setting under the bios# m3 K+ c4 h, D" t# l8 D) w# m+ f! _
specify NTSC for the TV out format Nothing has had an effect on the
: @$ }( e! w3 L# b) M* v# b% Jvideo output of the AGP-NV-DVI card.
- F7 ?0 A" T6 X1 y9 C! B& G3 W3 C' }3 B8 t U. y: j. p! B# ]0 Q
All I receive from the Television for a fraction of second is a T. s7 w9 u( t8 s
flicker of the computer screen in B&W when I select the Television

The Television is working with the system via the GrandTec Unit, and1 }" Q$ G# ~; c
via my VCR.

smelled smoke; nothing works, system won't power up, with or without

Okay, got the system board (A7N8X-VM/400) and daughter card4 Y; n8 S) \. _5 e
(AGP-NV-DVI) back from the RMA department. I hook up all the parts and( q% F0 j" x! g# g, F, m& e
pieces to the power supply and the SAME PROBLEM. Exactly the same as
% M4 |2 L9 x6 G0 tthe last time. I did notice one new thing. When I went to check the6 B* v% n2 F* F* W; P0 j
connection of the Composite Video Cable a small spark jumped from the0 k$ ?8 _+ g7 B$ L, N/ y
AGP Cards resistor, Marked R20??, to the AGP Connector on the system. Y' P7 @; a' c) G; n/ A2 e/ {6 V
board, causing the system to reset and including the CMOS. That
+ B0 v. j: m( b" m" hdoesn't look good at all. Funny thing is that was happening before I2 `( R F% h$ ]# R# `' j. l) Y
just didn't notice it, and I think thats what caused the last failure.
, |$ |0 l" f( |Bottom line the Card and System still don't do what I need them to do.3 u @ x) o3 `% `& q
Help with this feature would be greatly appreciated since it is why I
+ A( }$ Y; t1 M% c- U& ^purchased this system and daughter card.

The sparks probably indicate a static electricity problem--not really
) T& H% {4 i. z* `+ ma good thing. This is two power-type issues you have had since
: s G0 W) G. ?# ^. Kchanging the power supply--perhaps there is something wrong with the
' v- u/ Y& N( `5 `* S/ xAntec you picked up? The parts you received from RMA either a) worked
6 o7 S3 H0 Z/ u9 h/ }! c( ]properly in their lab after repair, or b) were sent as working
, N% q8 I4 S0 Y+ c$ Treplacements for the parts you sent to them. Either way, they should
! X _& v4 ~( n6 O5 Ifunction correctly. Since you had a problem initially when using the7 B( t1 T5 W% L
Antec, and now are having what looks like static problems, perhaps: ?% l8 n+ o4 Q( ?- P/ e' D
that particular power supply has issues of its own.

) T8 s, ^7 O+ r3 I9 M' ]9 P1 Y! ?Regarding the TV out problem: Make sure the television is turned on
6 n2 r# a4 H+ w, r8 w! M, _and connected to the card before turning on the computer. You may also
" a& c) m4 F* k M& b# [want to try a different video cable to see if that helps.( \& m. @+ _( y# h
5 E: P" ~4 _8 O) i! P8 K
If a different power supply doesn't help the condition of the boards,
( z/ t. f& v, [/ Funfortunately the only option left is to contact RMA once again.4 G( K$ n2 G* i0 e
Please give these suggestions a try, and let us know if you need3 q% q" a; G1 K
