Problem: A7N8X-VM/400 w/ AGP-NV-DVI & TV-out feature

This is a request to the rest of the Asus A7N8X-VM owners that have
2 W0 r- t7 t# Tbought the companion AGP-NV-DVI card. I'm not able to get TV out
/ B' t+ b. O! A: Q) @5 y8 _" ^working, either through Composite or S-Video, in Windows 2000 or
6 J/ ~1 g8 C$ ALinux, and I was curious if anyone else has or is having the same
Z5 x- d6 e; q7 x) J: Yproblem.

I've been dealing with this problem since Mar 17, 2004 and no one has

All Devices Are function properly with the exception of the DVI' P6 B( D# v4 S+ t# J
Daugther Card's S-Video and Composite out Feature. This is the main

I have tried downloading and reinstalling the drivers for the systems
# h' v% { a o% J; {components, running the system with each monitor indivually and2 t6 q" ]) F- R/ J) E- m" k
combined, and unplugging the TV Tuner Card. The setting under the bios5 g( `" A3 J. u+ }; F: {
specify NTSC for the TV out format Nothing has had an effect on the* O7 v6 s- X1 S9 u
video output of the AGP-NV-DVI card.# _1 L( ]2 A4 f/ j$ z/ ?
- E( m$ h! |( D6 T2 q! t
All I receive from the Television for a fraction of second is a
. q# T; _* m9 k$ R v0 e$ G) Jflicker of the computer screen in B&W when I select the Television# e) A0 ?: \7 }
output from the nVidia GeForece4 MX Intergrated GPU Properties Tab
& v# D& R/ c* a/ }$ O- Z% z"Device Selection" Menu

The Television is working with the system via the GrandTec Unit, and

Customer using agp-nv-dvi agp card, that is supposed to work with this

still had problems. No difference. Beginning to sound like a possible

Tried system out of case with Antec 400W psu, heard a "pop" sound and( _2 I' [7 Y( ]! j/ l
smelled smoke; nothing works, system won't power up, with or without

Okay, got the system board (A7N8X-VM/400) and daughter card
2 V+ w2 W7 P1 B5 T(AGP-NV-DVI) back from the RMA department. I hook up all the parts and
* t7 A+ h) E5 k, f2 b) H. U$ Wpieces to the power supply and the SAME PROBLEM. Exactly the same as. h. F$ J2 g9 `4 H; r' @. q8 S
the last time. I did notice one new thing. When I went to check the
1 \, o( i$ t U, s- lconnection of the Composite Video Cable a small spark jumped from the8 V6 E2 @, ^# I' u
AGP Cards resistor, Marked R20??, to the AGP Connector on the system" ^ C: Q/ q) b8 F/ c
board, causing the system to reset and including the CMOS. That
" ~. l# {5 _. s! q4 K1 b1 t' h, @doesn't look good at all. Funny thing is that was happening before I7 {: V. X4 a. Z. W0 A$ |
just didn't notice it, and I think thats what caused the last failure.
! t: `/ B& W- g5 f8 i, q" t( TBottom line the Card and System still don't do what I need them to do.
+ r# W" g) ^" V" o$ w* x7 IHelp with this feature would be greatly appreciated since it is why I% C" ]- X! x/ N" k& F2 y" T7 [
purchased this system and daughter card. q9 O2 T# g: B0 \. h

2 U/ a9 t8 j; f& Ha good thing. This is two power-type issues you have had since% I3 K) G, x! }- }+ R
changing the power supply--perhaps there is something wrong with the# Q. P& R4 ?2 e3 B/ K
Antec you picked up? The parts you received from RMA either a) worked+ F7 g/ N& p2 M! M' Y' n
properly in their lab after repair, or b) were sent as working% d* E& E+ i5 V' H% I) _
replacements for the parts you sent to them. Either way, they should3 l' q. q" F# a B
function correctly. Since you had a problem initially when using the1 S* S; _$ _! z, X7 p# @* Y2 `
Antec, and now are having what looks like static problems, perhaps: r: s4 `" F! L% l3 T$ l2 Z$ e
that particular power supply has issues of its own.
- ]) e3 O( o. d9 Z1 P' ]/ p& A+ N/ x, R
Regarding the TV out problem: Make sure the television is turned on
* A+ P t5 c' f. uand connected to the card before turning on the computer. You may also' N( i0 [; D! u
want to try a different video cable to see if that helps.

If a different power supply doesn't help the condition of the boards,! x" L% N* |/ t6 C( ~

"Ratan", the RMA rep I spoke with, the board is functionaly with
