Etymotic ER6i is a in-the-ear type stereo headset. It provides a isolation of over 25dB against the noise outside. Below is the measurement done this morning in AE lab, CDC.

Right Channel Isolation (ER6i)
5 T6 O. V. T/ ]+ r9 b$ GDue to the in-the-ear design, ER6i provides much better noise canceling compared with normal circumaural earphones and normal earbuds. In the frequency below 1 KHz, the isolation is around 18dB and more than 25dB over 1 KHz, as shown in the pictures above.

( D+ ^% }' Y& K$ }Former try listening gives a feeling that the ER6i lacks in bass and it is proved by its response. Pictures below reveal why it’s bass-free. L) M: |% [; `: t! K1 J- I

The frequency response of ER6i conforms to the Type4.3 ear simulator well, which is shown as below. % V+ ^+ B( R- M8 e; f5 \

Compared with the response given above, the ER6i’s response below 1 KHz is quite flat, within ±2dB. Instead, the Bass-Rich ear bud has a peak around 500Hz, which will result in plenty of bass elements while listening music. And that’s why ER6i is designed to classic music without too much bass.& c2 O. g" y: S; r6 o5 r
The huge difference of THD may derive from driver type. ER6i applies balanced armature while the other dynamic. |
