Problem: A7N8X-VM/400 w/ AGP-NV-DVI & TV-out feature

This is a request to the rest of the Asus A7N8X-VM owners that have
; Y% k5 z: S( c( [. y) b2 {bought the companion AGP-NV-DVI card. I'm not able to get TV out
, E; w3 _/ Q" d! Wworking, either through Composite or S-Video, in Windows 2000 or( j; o9 h4 L4 t, r q9 q8 K+ n c
Linux, and I was curious if anyone else has or is having the same5 q* N6 |9 J) |2 b

I've been dealing with this problem since Mar 17, 2004 and no one has

All Devices Are function properly with the exception of the DVI, l3 d, F" _; S
Daugther Card's S-Video and Composite out Feature. This is the main
/ k# d( p: S; ~7 b% W) j9 Nreason I purchased this motherboard and daughter card.

" ^6 n; }' p- Q! J! S, ZI have tried downloading and reinstalling the drivers for the systems. y2 l/ j* f/ U2 c% r( P
components, running the system with each monitor indivually and
* S/ Y# N" V3 vcombined, and unplugging the TV Tuner Card. The setting under the bios1 g$ m; n5 Q. j8 i6 y' A; L
specify NTSC for the TV out format Nothing has had an effect on the
5 {2 l$ a' r, d) s0 svideo output of the AGP-NV-DVI card.
' j# a# k/ |2 ]8 i* \0 t( y2 B/ O7 z7 K' H
All I receive from the Television for a fraction of second is a" Q5 i8 D, g! t
flicker of the computer screen in B&W when I select the Television
( r3 ?6 {. o1 x1 s" V* f+ r- moutput from the nVidia GeForece4 MX Intergrated GPU Properties Tab

The Television is working with the system via the GrandTec Unit, and

Customer using agp-nv-dvi agp card, that is supposed to work with this: d9 S1 [& @- a: O- b2 o
motherboard. Whenever selecting to output to the tv, he gets a quick

to another tv. Same problems. Also tried loading linux, to see if

bad card. Suggested trying a different power supply, run the1 S: A. @: @; e0 J" k# E

Tried system out of case with Antec 400W psu, heard a "pop" sound and
8 ~% w/ A2 _1 D4 msmelled smoke; nothing works, system won't power up, with or without- Y5 w% K- ~5 B9 @1 {
the card; smell seems to be coming from around the AGP slot/ D% v. _# G3 ` Z6 |# F N

Okay, got the system board (A7N8X-VM/400) and daughter card# ~; e2 g( }$ f( N2 W D. M
(AGP-NV-DVI) back from the RMA department. I hook up all the parts and
) _2 q. D4 u2 e3 b: h1 u& Gpieces to the power supply and the SAME PROBLEM. Exactly the same as8 `$ u- c& \, Y# [' U }
the last time. I did notice one new thing. When I went to check the( X9 d* L/ c( O2 K
connection of the Composite Video Cable a small spark jumped from the
$ X5 Y$ e1 b+ ~ [! w1 [AGP Cards resistor, Marked R20??, to the AGP Connector on the system
" u- X. w- t' o0 H* l* u' Oboard, causing the system to reset and including the CMOS. That
$ |* h4 z2 K( e9 i: e- ydoesn't look good at all. Funny thing is that was happening before I) I. s2 l1 x1 P6 P6 l: m8 ~
just didn't notice it, and I think thats what caused the last failure.
0 k' W0 {- L; {8 s9 bBottom line the Card and System still don't do what I need them to do.% i* u6 t1 e% [, g6 Z. o
Help with this feature would be greatly appreciated since it is why I
4 u! W; W: q" c* X& wpurchased this system and daughter card.

The sparks probably indicate a static electricity problem--not really
8 \6 F: O$ o. @; Pa good thing. This is two power-type issues you have had since J0 P$ s1 q l
changing the power supply--perhaps there is something wrong with the
4 r& G/ |7 a) ?5 CAntec you picked up? The parts you received from RMA either a) worked7 w! k* C7 |9 a$ W
properly in their lab after repair, or b) were sent as working' c% u- T; Y3 R1 o' x9 I) C* ~# h2 i
replacements for the parts you sent to them. Either way, they should
# ]& H2 y& i6 e3 P ?# _function correctly. Since you had a problem initially when using the
6 h k* ]' N A7 UAntec, and now are having what looks like static problems, perhaps+ A9 q) Q# y2 o
that particular power supply has issues of its own.
; K" k" U8 c8 W) m2 m8 [ F4 h, ?# `
Regarding the TV out problem: Make sure the television is turned on
0 L/ `& [- y' o# S$ d2 eand connected to the card before turning on the computer. You may also1 ^" ?0 I; l2 h3 c
want to try a different video cable to see if that helps.$ C! k, Y7 Y$ M! N
3 V* W A3 j! `If a different power supply doesn't help the condition of the boards,3 F3 y: q9 X& T( g4 u! \( x% D
unfortunately the only option left is to contact RMA once again.+ i0 k# c: F7 o Z
Please give these suggestions a try, and let us know if you need

me that I should receive a return phone call no later than end of day
