MSI intros SuperPipe cooling with GeForce GTX 285

MSI has today launched a pair of GeForce GTX 285 graphics cards equipped with its all-new SuperPipe technology.
As the name suggests, SuperPipe is a custom cooling system featuring enhanced heatpipes. According to MSI, SuperPipe products will feature 8mm thick heatpipes - roughly 60 per cent thicker than usual - that vastly improve heat dissipation and result in a 90 per cent improvement in thermal efficiency.


Whilst we've yet to see real-world cooling performance, MSI's extra-thick SuperPipes are now available as part of either the stock-clocked N285GTX SuperPipe or the factory-overclocked N275GTX SuperPipe OC. The latter of which features a 680MHz core and 1GB of DDR3 memory clocked at an effective 2,500MHz.
Both cards utilise what MSI calls a "Twin Frozr -Dual-Fan Thermal Design", featuring a pair of fans, five heatpipes - two of which are SuperPipe - and an all-metal heatsink.
No word on pricing yet, but we expect availability soon, and we'd be surprised not to see SuperPipe implemented on other MSI cards in the near future, too.
