Nvidia predicts lower Q2 revenue, up to $200M repair charg
Nvidia Corp. said Wednesday it expects its second-quarter revenueand gross margin to be lower than the company forecast earlier.
SantaClara-based Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) said it now expects $875 million to$950 million in revenue. "The estimated decrease in revenue and grossmargin is due to several reasons: end-market weakness around the world, the delayed ramp of a next generation MCP, and price adjustments of ourGPU products to respond to competitive products," the company said.
Thecompany also expects a $150 million to $200 million charge to coveranticipated warranty, repair, return, replacement and other costs andexpenses arising from a "weak die/packaging material set in certainversions of its previous generation GPU and MCP products used innotebook systems."
The company's CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, said, "Thishas been a challenging experience for us. However, the lessons we'velearned will help us build far more robust products in the future, andbecome a more valuable system design partner to our customers. As forthe present, we have switched production to a more robust die/packagematerial set and are working proactively with our OEM partners todevelop system management software that will provide better thermalmanagement to the GPU."
