Full-screen anti-aliasing (FSAA) benchmarking is now included.
Hardware-based FSAA is usually accomplished via a technique called multi-sampling so you will find scripts using the “ms” abbreviation.
Multi-sampling methods effectively subdivide each pixel into a 2x2, 4x4, 8x8, 16x16, or 32x32 window although non-power-of-two subdivisions are possible. So FSAA methods are denoted as 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, and so on.
If you are not familiar with FSAA, the goal of FSAA implementations is to create higher quality digital imagery using smoothing techniques that suppress the “jaggies” in the digital images. Try rendering scenes with the OpenGL driver option turned on and off.
Look for nearly vertical and nearly horizontal lines in both states. You should see a noticeable difference in image quality between the two images. |
